In an interview with one of the media houses, Surinder Singh reflected on their family’s history and Arijit’s early days. During this, he revealed that their ancestral home was near Lahore, but after Partition, the family relocated to Lalgola and later settled in Jiaganj.

He revealed that it was in this quiet town that Arijit’s musical journey began. According to his father, Arijit started singing kirtans at a local gurudwara alongside his late mother, Aditi Singh and thus music became a natural part of his upbringing. At home, however, the global star is still lovingly called Shomu. Surinder Singh also shared that despite his son’s massive success, their life in Jiaganj remains simple and peaceful.

According to him, Arijit never fully adapted to Mumbai’s fast-paced life and always found comfort in returning home.
