During a discussion, he discussed the life cycle of his son and his journey from singing at a local gurudwara to becoming one of India’s most celebrated voices. In an interview with one of the media houses, Surinder Singh reflected on their family’s history and Arijit’s early days. During this, he revealed that their ancestral home was near Lahore, but after Partition, the family relocated to Lalgola and later settled in Jiaganj.

He revealed that it was in this quiet town that Arijit’s musical journey began. According to his father, Arijit started singing kirtans at a local gurudwara alongside his late mother, Aditi Singh and thus music became a natural part of his upbringing. At home, however, the global star is still lovingly called Shomu. Surinder Singh also shared that despite his son’s massive success, their life in Jiaganj remains simple and peaceful.

Speaking about his son’s bond with his childhood home in Jiaganj, Surinder Singh said the peaceful environment draws him back repeatedly. According to him, Arijit never fully adapted to Mumbai’s fast-paced life and always found comfort in returning home. Even today, despite being globally recognised figure, he prefers the quiet lanes of Jiaganj over the glamour of the film industry.

Arijit’s cousin, Raju Singh, who manages the cash counter at a restaurant started by the singer in the area, mentioned that the family rarely visits the establishment due to busy schedules.
