Oracle’s restructuring charges for the first nine months of FY2026 had ballooned to nearly five times what the company spent on restructuring in the same period last year. That kind of jump doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the financial footprint of a company that had been trimming steadily, below the radar, long before the wave of 6AM termination emails made headlines.Oracle had disclosed its largest-ever restructuring plan back in September 2025, projecting it would cost billions in severance this fiscal year alone. At the time, it drew relatively little attention. Senior engineers, architects, and program managers were among those cut\u2014none of it performance-based, according to a senior Oracle manager who wrote about it publicly on LinkedIn.Oracle’s explanation, such as it is, points to AI making teams leaner and faster.
