Roads were blocked and residents were urged to remain indoors as fighting continued. A three-day overnight curfew was later imposed in Bamako from 9 pm to 6 am.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"21\"\/>United nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack. According to a statement issued by UN spokesperson read: &#8220;The Secretary\u2011General is deeply concerned by reports of attacks in several locations across Mali. He strongly condemns these acts of violence, expresses solidarity with the Malian people &amp; stresses the need to protect civilians &amp; civilian infrastructure.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"24\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Separatists confirm alliance with Islamist group<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"26\"\/>In a significant development, FLA spokesperson Mohamed El Maouloud Ramadan confirmed that separatist fighters had taken part in the attacks alongside JNIM, according to Associated Press.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"28\"\/>\u201cThis operation is being carried out in partnership with the JNIM, which is also committed to defending the people against the military regime in Bamako,\u201d he said in a statement.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"30\"\/><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"32\"\/>The separatists also claimed control over parts of Kidal and Gao, two key cities in northern Mali, signalling a renewed push for influence in the region where they have long sought an independent state called Azawad.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"35\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Government response and casualties<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"37\"\/>Mali\u2019s government said 16 people were wounded in the attacks, including both civilians and military personnel. Several militants were killed, though officials did not provide exact numbers of attackers neutralised.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"39\"\/>State television confirmed that Malian forces were \u201cengaged in eliminating the attackers,\u201d while authorities imposed emergency restrictions to stabilise the situation in the capital.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"41\"\/>The governor of Bamako\u2019s district announced a strict curfew and security forces were deployed across sensitive locations, including the airport zone and military installations.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"44\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Regional concern and ECOWAS reaction<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"46\"\/>The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) condemned the coordinated attacks and called for stronger regional cooperation to counter rising militant violence across the Sahel.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"48\"\/>Security analysts said the coordination between jihadist groups and separatists marks a worrying shift, potentially complicating already fragile counterinsurgency efforts in Mali and neighbouring states.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"50\"\/><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"52\"\/>The separatist group also issued a statement urging Russia to reconsider its support for Mali\u2019s military government, alleging that foreign backing has worsened conditions for civilians.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"55\"\/>Mali\u2019s junta, which came to power through coups in 2020 and 2021, has increasingly relied on Russian security assistance after reducing cooperation with Western partners.
