When Kiren Rijiju explained why he and his party were calling the opposition \u2018mahila virodhi\u2019, it was pointed out to him that no one could ever call me anti-women! The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which proposed 33 per cent reservation for women in legislatures and an increase in Lok Sabha seats to 816, was defeated.The A total of 298 members voted in favour, while 230 voted against the bill. Out of 528 votes cast, the bill required 352 votes to secure the two-thirds majority needed for passage.The proposal aimed to increase Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 816 to implement women\u2019s reservation ahead of the 2029 parliamentary elections, following a delimitation exercise based on the 2011 Census. It also planned to expand seats in state and Union Territory assemblies to accommodate the quota.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
