Iran\u2019s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has signalled a tougher stance on the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, warning that Tehran will push its control over the vital waterway to a \u201cnew stage\u201d even as a fragile ceasefire with the US and Israel remains under strain.Addressing the nation in a written statement, Khamenei on Thursday declared that Iran would not let the US and Israel go \u201cunpunished for their aggression\u201d and would seek compensation for wartime losses. \u201cBy the permission of Almighty God, we will certainly not let the criminal aggressors go free. We will certainly demand compensation for every injury inflicted, blood money for the martyrs, and reparations for the disabled veterans of this war, and we will certainly advance the management of the Strait of Hormuz to a new stage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Khamenei also claimed victory in the ongoing West Asia conflict, praising the resilience of the Iranian people and armed forces. \u201cToday, and up to this point, it can boldly be said that you, the heroic nation of Iran, have been the definitive victor in this arena,\u201d he said.Despite a temporary ceasefire agreement, he urged citizens to continue mobilising, asking people to form \u201chuman defence chains\u201d and maintain pressure during negotiations. \u201cYour cries in the squares are effective in the outcome of the negotiations,\u201d he added.Khamenei also struck a measured tone, stating that Iran did not seek war but would not \u201crenounce our legitimate rights under any circumstances,\u201d even as it engages in talks with Washington.<\/p>\n The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of tensions.
