The decision reportedly stems from the film’s massive production cost, which is estimated at around ₹4,000 crore for the two-part saga. Sources suggest that Malhotra is holding out for a much bigger deal, reportedly targeting an OTT valuation of ₹1,000 crore. The strategy is to recover a significant portion of the investment through digital rights, while the remaining revenue will come from global theatrical releases and other monetization channels.

Industry insiders believe that Ramayana has the potential to become a global phenomenon, given its scale, subject, and star power. The film is based on one of India’s most revered epics, which gives it massive appeal not only domestically but also internationally. The makers are confident that OTT platforms will eventually revise their offers upward, considering the film’s potential to attract worldwide viewership and drive subscriptions.

Trade analysts point out that this strategy has worked in the past for other films. For instance, a similar approach helped increase the OTT value of sequel-based projects after the success of their first installment. This calculated move could help Ramayana command a premium price if the first part performs well at the box office. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including, Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.

The teaser for Ramayana was unveiled on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, offering a glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram. While other actors were featured, the teaser primarily focused on Ranbir’s character, building intrigue among fans.
