Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently shared a powerful behind-the-scenes memory involving Salman Khan during the filming of the song “Sau Dard Hai” from the film Jaan‑E‑Mann.

Speaking in a podcast conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, Farah revealed that Salman’s emotional breakdown in the scene was not acting at all, it was completely real.

The song sequence, shot on New York’s Brooklyn Bridge, required Salman to portray intense heartbreak. But instead of using glycerine like most actors do for crying scenes, the superstar unexpectedly broke down on camera.

Recalling the shoot, Farah said that the moment felt raw and authentic. According to her, the actor didn’t rely on any cinematic tricks to produce tears.

She explained that Salman simply stood there and cried, internalising the pain of the character so deeply that the emotion became real. The crew kept the camera rolling because the moment felt too genuine to interrupt.

Farah admitted she still doesn’t know what Salman might have been going through personally at that time, but it was the first time she saw him express such deep emotion while performing.

A Sensitive Side of Salman Khan

While many see Salman Khan as Bollywood’s larger-than-life superstar, Farah Khan said he actually has a very soft heart behind the tough exterior. She described him as someone who can deeply internalise emotions and translate them into powerful on-screen performances.

The filmmaker also pointed out that the songs of Jaan-E-Mann were beautifully picturised but remained underrated despite their emotional depth.

When the Film Failed, Farah Was Heartbroken

Despite the emotional performances and strong music, Jaan-E-Mann did not perform well at the box office after its release in 2006.

Farah said the film’s commercial failure deeply disappointed her because she believed it featured some of her best choreography. However, Salman Khan’s real tears in “Sau Dard Hai” remain a lasting reminder of how raw emotion can create cinematic magic.
