Mrs. Parul Mehta: Leading for Dignity: Empowering Communities And Enabling Change – Woman’s era Magazine
Nearly two decades ago, Mrs. Parul Mehta set out with a simple yet powerful intention, to make a meaningful difference in the lives of underserved communities. Today, as the Managing Trustee of Ishanya Foundation, she leads an initiative that has touched and transformed countless lives through thoughtful action and compassionate leadership.
A Vision Rooted in Self-Reliance
For her, CSR was never about charity. It was about dignity. What began as a sincere effort to support communities gradually evolved into a larger vision, one where individuals are equipped with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to shape their own futures. Under her guidance, Ishanya Foundation has grown into a platform that nurtures self-reliance, resilience, and long-term change, one life at a time.
Founded in 2006, Ishanya Foundation was rooted in a deeply personal vision; to help communities stand strong on their own. What began as a focused effort around vocational training and livelihood support gradually unfolded into a far more holistic journey. As she engaged closely with communities, it became evident that sustainable progress could not exist in isolation.. Responding to these interconnected realities, the Foundation expanded its work across sectors, building partnerships with NGOs and government bodies to deepen and widen its impact.
Today, while the Foundation’s core philosophy remains unchanged, its scope has widened significantly. It continues to evolve alongside India’s shifting social and economic realities, adapting its work to meet emerging needs with sensitivity and purpose.
Milestones that Shaped a Movement
Over the years, several milestones have shaped this journey. One of the earliest was the Vocational Skill Development Project (VSDP), which equipped urban youth with industry-relevant skills and opened doors to employment and financial independence.

Another defining moment came with the launch of the Yellow Ribbon NGO & Artisan Fair in Pune. What started as a modest platform connecting grassroots artisans and NGOs with urban consumers has grown into a nationally recognised event. Beyond generating meaningful sales, the Fair has strengthened market access, encouraged digital adoption, and nurtured entrepreneurial confidence. Today, it stands as a vibrant celebration of inclusive growth and conscious consumerism.
In rural India, Agri-based livelihood and dairy development initiatives have helped marginalised farmers build steady incomes while adopting improved agricultural practices focussing on women in the family. Alongside this, Aarogyam, the Foundation’s healthcare initiative, has expanded access to preventive health camps, mobile clinics, pathological and diagnostic services, and specialised care bringing essential support closer to underserved communities. The transformation of village schools through digital learning tools and upgraded infrastructure has been equally impactful, opening new worlds of opportunity for rural children. Each of these milestones reflects Mrs. Mehta’s enduring belief that development must nurture confidence and capability enabling individuals to rise independently, not through dependency.
Women at the Heart of Sustainable Change
At the heart of Ishanya Foundation’s work lies a simple belief: when women are given opportunity, communities flourish. Through focused entrepreneurship initiatives, women gain practical skills, essential tools, and market access, enabling them to build sustainable businesses and steady incomes. Financial stability has brought confidence, stronger decision-making, and greater security for families of many women.
In redefining CSR as a pathway from charity to transformation, Mrs. Parul Mehta has not just led an organisation, she has shaped a movement. Her work stands as a testament to what purposeful leadership can achieve when guided by conviction, compassion, and unwavering commitment to dignity.
At a time when development demands both scale and sensitivity, her journey reminds us that real progress is measured not by numbers alone, but by the confidence of individuals who are empowered to rise on their own.
