KOLKATA: The BLO, arrested on Friday for abducting a Baduria resident, on Saturday confessed to murdering him. Nasir Ali‘s dismembered body parts, stuffed in three plastic bags, were recovered from three water bodies.Police said an alleged extramarital relationship between the accused, Rizwan Hasan Mondal, and Ali’s wife could be the reason. Mondal, a primary school teacher, and Ali, a resident of Papila village in the Basirhat police district, reportedly shared a cordial relationship until recently.

Mondal’s associate, Sagar Gayen, has also been arrested. In the evening of Feb 9, Ali left home after he received a call from an alleged assistant electoral registration officer, who apparently asked him to take photocopies of his mother’s Aadhaar and voter ID cards to Lalkuthi. “He left on his bike but never returned. His family lodged a missing person’s complaint at Baduria PS. During a search, cops found Ali’s shoes near a canal on Feb 10 and later, his bike in the Yamuna canal in Chatra,” a relative said. .Mondal, who had also gone missing around the same time, was arrested from Tetulia in Swarupnagar and Gayen from Rampurhat. During interrogation, Mondal reportedly confessed to the crime. “Police conducted a late-night search in the Yamuna canal under Chatra bridge, the Ichchamati at Charghat and a pond in Lalkuthi and fished out dismembered and decomposed body parts in plastic bags,” a senior Basirhat district police officer said.Ali’s uncle, Shafiqul, said, “My nephew and Rizwan shared a cordial relationship. We cannot understand why Rizwan killed Nasir.” Basirhat SP Hossain Mehdi Rehman told TOI, “An alleged affair with the victim’s wife could have led to the murder. A probe is on.”
