'Jana Nayagan' censor row; Madras HC dismisses the case against CBFC, Thalapathy Vijay officially sent for re-examination
The Madras High Court has dismissed the case against the CBFC regarding the film ‘Jana Nayagan’, allowing producers to withdraw. This clears the path for the film’s re-examination, with a new committee expected to provide an opinion within 20 days. If certified, the political-social drama starring Thalapathy Vijay could release in early March.

The Madras High Court has dismissed the case related to the film ‘Jana Nayagan’. The court allowed the producers to withdraw the case. Justice P.T. Asha passed the order. With this, all court hurdles in the censorship issue have ended. The path is now clear for the re-examination process. The main decision was the court’s allowing the case to be withdrawn and dismissing it. The film team had already informed the court registry that they had approached the re-examination committee for the censor certificate. As per Nakkheeran, the case was listed before Justice P.T. Asha as the first case of the day. There were no arguments from either side. The judge permitted the withdrawal and dismissed the case. This brought the legal battle to a complete end.

Background of the legal dispute

Complaints were raised that the film had scenes affecting religious harmony. So, the film was sent to a re-examination committee. The producers went to court seeking an order to get the censor certificate. A single judge first ordered the board to issue the certificate. The division bench cancelled that order and sent the case back. The matter went to the Supreme Court, but it asked the team to go back to the High Court. Later, the Censor Board said the film was already sent for re-examination. After this, the producers decided to withdraw the case.

Re-examination process and expected release

‘Jana Nayagan’ has now officially gone for re-examination. A new committee will be formed to watch the film. They are expected to give their opinion within 20 days. Changes may be suggested. After that, the censor certificate may be issued. If the certificate is granted, the film could be released in the first week of March. This is Vijay’s last acting venture before his full-time political journey begins, so expectations are high. Now, all eyes are on the re-examination committee’s decision.

About ‘Jana Nayagan’

Directed by H Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ stars Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, with a strong ensemble cast including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Mamitha Baiju, and Gautham Menon in key roles. Anirudh Ravichander has scored the music, while the cinematography is handled by Sathyan Sooryan.
