Rhea Chakraborty Gets Major Relief in Sushant Singh Rajput Case As NDPS Court Orders Unfreezing of Bank Accounts – Woman’s era Magazine
Actress Rhea Chakraborty has received significant legal relief in the high-profile case linked to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. A special NDPS court has ordered the unfreezing of all her bank accounts, while also holding the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) accountable for procedural lapses. The court observed that the NCB failed to follow mandatory legal protocols while freezing the bank accounts of Rhea Chakraborty and her family in 2020.

Due to these lapses, the court ruled that continuing the freeze was unjustified. As per the order issued by Special Judge U.C. Deshmukh, under Section 68F(2) of the NDPS Act, any order to freeze or seize property must be confirmed by a competent authority within 30 days. The court noted that this crucial step was not followed by the NCB. “The provisions were not complied with, and no confirmation order was passed,” the court stated, effectively invalidating the prolonged freeze.

Back in 2020, during the investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, the NCB had frozen multiple bank accounts belonging to Rhea, her brother, and her mother. This included accounts in major banks such as ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. The move restricted the family from accessing their own funds for years, impacting their financial operations.

In her petition, Rhea Chakraborty argued that the freezing of her accounts and fixed deposits was done without valid justification. She highlighted that her brother is financially dependent on her and that she needed access to her funds to pay salaries, taxes, and other essential expenses, including GST.

However, at the time, the NCB, represented by Special Prosecutor Atul Sarapande, had opposed the plea, claiming that de-freezing the accounts could hamper the ongoing investigation. The drugs case against Rhea Chakraborty and her brother emerged during the probe into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June 2020 at his Mumbai residence. The case attracted nationwide attention, involving multiple agencies and several angles, including narcotics.
